A Mauchline 'wright'-carpenter and cabinet maker — who made the furniture for Ellisland. He was not, it would seem, a punctual worker, since Burns had to write to him from Isle on 22nd January 1789: 'If ever you wished to deserve the blessing of him that was ready to perish; if every you were in a situation that a little kindness would have rescued from many evils: if every you hope to find rest in future states of untryed being; get these matters of mine ready.'
