Walker, Thomas (d. c. 1812)
A tailor who lived at Pool, near Ochiltree, and a friend of the schoolmaster, William Simpson. Walker wrote verses, and sent a long rhyming epistle to Burns hoping to elicit an epistle in reply. But the poet took no notice of him, so, when the Kilmarnock Edition appeared, Walker wrote Burns again, this time attacking his morals. Burns responded with the 'Reply to a Triming Epistle Received from a Tailor'. The manuscript of Walker's verses, which were printed by Stewart shows that Simson had a hand in its composition. The authenticity of Burns's reply has also been questioned, and by some attributed to Simson; but it is now generally accepted as genuine and printed in collections of Burns's work,.
